A spiky bagworm that uses itself as a flail

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Minomusi[1][note 1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, bagworm-based Badnik model created by Dr. Robotnik.

Appearance[]

Minomusis are small, cylinders-shaped Badniks with a mostly yellow surface, and a red and curved top and bottom. On top of their body they have a pair of black cartoonish eyes and along their surface area they have two rows of gray spikes. They also keep themselves suspended with a gray cord of variable length.

Overview[]

Ww17

A Minomusi in Wacky Workbench, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Minomusis appear as enemies in Wacky Workbench. In gameplay, they hide in the overhangs using threads they spin themselves, so the player can only see the red bottom of their bodies. When the player approaches however, they will lower themselves down for a few seconds to a set height. If the player is close enough as well, they will protrude their spikes, which will damage the playable character upon touch, thereby protecting themselves from side attacks. However, they can still be attacked from above or below with a Spin Jump. Other than that however, they will not use any other attack patterns. Regardless, once they have been down for a few seconds, they zip back into their hiding place to repeat their attack pattern.

In the Bad Future or sometimes in the Present timeframe of the Rounds, Minomusis' bodies show signs of wear and tear, possessing cracked armor and no spikes. These Minomusis are incapable of sprouting any spikes at all. However, they exhibit a different behavioral pattern. As before, they lower themselves down when the playable character approaches, but instead of hanging idly around, they widen their eyes a few times before pulling themselves back up to hide on the ceiling. However, they will lower themselves down again when the playable character gets close enough. Without their spikes though, they are more susceptible to attacks. Also, like every Badnik in the game, the Minomusis are powered by Little Planet flower seeds which will pop out of them after they are defeated.

Powers and abilities[]

The Minomusi are capable of spewing webs that they use to lower themselves up and down. They are also able to protrude spikes as their means of defense.

Trivia[]

  • "Minomushi" (ミノムシ?) is the Japanese word for "bagworm".
  • The design of the Minomusis seem to have heavily inspired those of the Mic Drop Badnik from Sonic Mania.

Notes[]

  1. While not listed in any instruction manuals, in-game source code from the Sonic Gems Collection version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD refers to this Badnik as "minomusi".
