Vi-Locks (Earth-8545) from Exiles Vol 1 20 0001

The Network

Earth-8545 is a world where the Legacy Virus was ravaging the mutant population. Desperate to save his friend Douglas Ramsey, who had become infected, the technarch Warlock merged him in an attempt to save him. Instead the virus mutated with the technarch body and began consuming all living beings on the planet, including non-mutants. The infected became known as Vi-Locks.

Soon, the last vestiges of humanity were forced to hide away, as the mutant Forge became the leader of the Vi-Locks. The survivors managed to synthesize mutant healing factors into creating a serum with some limited success in halting the spread of the Vi-Lock virus, but were unable to cure those already affected.

The Exiles were charged with retrieving the body of Douglas Ramsey, held in stasis by Forge within the Vi-Lock base, in the hopes that access to the original strain might allow the surviving uninfected scientists to find a cure. They failed in their mission, after Forge became aware of their plan and destroyed Ramsey.

They received a new mission to ensure the planet's destruction, since the Vi-Locks would eventually spread across the universe, but were able to find another solution; they summoned the Asgardians, who had not been present on Earth during the modern age. Their own healing factors were used to bolster the existing serum, making it strong enough to cure the Vi-Lock strain.

The survivors began to slowly rebuild their world by curing Vi-Locks and recruiting the formerly infected superhumans in their efforts.
