Notes

  • The Marvel Universe 2001 Millennial Visions entry that details this version of Spider-Man uses as a framing device a made-up account detailing the editorial history of the character. In this account, writer Steve Fooey was approached to write a "What If Spidey Were Really A Mutant" storyline that ran for seven years. The extremely complex, multi-layered story resulted in Spider-Man being reimagined as a dark and grotesque version of himself; with this version being presented for the last two years. However, the new Spider-Man quickly became the most infamous storyline since Ghost Rider's "Scooter Saga." Fooey ended up regretting it, and argued that he only wanted to write a good Spider-Man story to entertain people and make them happy. Whenever he hears fans comparing this storyline to the "Clone Saga," he tears up.
