Does Urdu use the same characters as Farsi? If so, asking FANDOM staff to look into supporting it via "Contact us" is your best bet. They will probably work on it if it isn't too hard.

If Urdu is significantly unique and difficult to implement technically, the chance of it being supported are low. FANDOM is in the midst of the UCP transition hell hole, so most of their resources are probably working on that.

So, to put it shortly, today's Persian alphabet is Arabic with several additional signs and new features, and Urdu is the same Persian script with again three extra symbols. Both Urdu and Persian are written from the right to the left.

It is almost the exact same characters as Farsi, with just 3 extra symbols apperantly. Urdu already has been implemented into the internet (unicode and all that) so i'd say it should't be that hard for FANDOM to carry? They both are similar to Arabic script, so i'll give contacting staff a try.

Unless you've seen the code and understand how it works, you can't guess whether something is easy or hard with any accuracy.

That said, Tupka217, do you know if the decrease in language options was Fandom's decision or a change to MediaWiki?

It was Fandom's decision. Previously, they just used every language on Translatewiki. I'm not sure if I have figures somewhere ( and whether those are non-NDA) so ask Marc/MtaA for specifics.

Fandom do support Hebrew, including (partially) the right-to-left form, despite having very few wikis in this language. So as was said, contacting staff worths a try.

Urdu language didn't get a lot of views on Fandom in the past 10 years, and this is a sign that this is unlikely to change, so we decided to remove it in favor of allowing users to choose another, bigger language they speak. Staff told me this. Although I wouldn't really be that sad that Urdu was gone, but what makes me mad is that they support Hindi but not Urdu. But I guess if Urdu-speakers don't like FANDOM too much theres no point in keeping it. But now I've lost the ability to make a wiki in the only second langauge I know.

That is too bad. I suppose this wouldn't be an issue if Fandom used 100% core MediaWiki. Then they wouldn't have to lift a finger to keep supporting all of these languages.

Multi-language support of any kind is difficult. The reason MediaWiki makes it easier is because someone else has already done the work. But for something like Discussions, Fandom would have to do that work themselves; more likely than not.
