Wikia wiki admins can manage the communities as they see fit, with few exceptions. One of those exceptions is preventing others from contributing (as I understand it); you can't have a "private" site on Wikia.
From
Community Creation Policy:
Communities are about working together, and all Wikia communities are open to the public to edit. There is no option to restrict editing to the founder or to a particular group.
Unnecessary page protection is a common mistake that is considered harmful to a wikia's development. A clear statement of the community's goals is a better way to promote your vision than technical restrictions.
These are community projects, not personal websites. They are not owned by their founders, nor does the founder's opinion carry more weight in disagreements than any other user's opinion. Consensus and cooperation should be the primary means for organizing a community.
But seeing the messages on that talk page, it doesn't seem like you're being prevented from editing. I do get a sense of annoying micro-management, rather than allowing the community to flourish... but not outright preventing edits. It could be taken as "A clear statement of the community's goals," I guess.
I saw something similar on a wiki I was editing. A bunch of unnecessary rules and restrictions popped up one day. I don't edit there much now. That's how it goes.
