Not entirely excited to be looking for a new website, to be honest.

But yes, that's what I was planning to do.
Once you have a decent amount of content it's impossible to completely move from Wikia. Some of the original editors/admins might make a new wiki with a different host (or self-host) but that leaves the original wiki up for grabs. It's also difficult to get staff to delete said wikis.
And in a case like that, "lower" admins and contributors might well be tempted to stay because it would improve their position.
But that's not something you have to worry about.

Well, I did say I wasn't going to delete the wiki. And the few semi-active admins are basically on board with moving (PM'ing on Wattpad).
Good luck. The more wikis that move, the more Fandom staff will listen. It took a dumpster fire last time called the Oasis Wars, but they eventually did listen.
Though a 200 page wiki with practically no community will not register on their radar. So if you want to make a point, noone will notice.
I'm not trying to make a point, I'm trying to find a suitable website for my wiki to be in. I thought Wikia was the best option because of its easy to learn formatting and image system, but now Shoutwiki and Wikidot are candidates.
Do you have a link to this? Sounds interesting.
It's not really a cohesive history, but gives you a sense of what happened. It was actually much worse.
Shoutwiki isn't that great. I have a wiki on it (a copy of my wiki here), and while the smaller ads, theme selection, and up-to-date MediaWiki are nice, other stuff is meh. Staff support is nearly nonexistent and due to it not being a very popular host most wikis made on it have very poor SEO. It's also lacking some notable features (no tabber equivalent or forums for example). The biggest downside in my experience though was the various HTTP errors. Seemed like any time I felt like testing out stuff it was down.
No experience with Wikidot.

Oh, I guess the whole "express yourself" gimmick got to me.
I assume Wikidot is okay, they have cool skins and the SCP Foundation has been on there for years.

Thank you, I love stuff like this (meme wars and other Internet history).
