Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the Fandom Community

As we conclude Fandom’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the editors and communities that contributed! Whether it be through blogs, editor stories, attending roundtables, or hosting your own events, your contributions matter and make a significant impact to the Fandom community. Together, we honored various makers in entertainment, ranging from Héctor’s list of video game developer studios continuing to see great success through their titles to the history of Fandom’s Hispanic communities through the words and journey’s of our editors.

We thought we would do something a little different with the concluding blog, and truly amplify the voices of our community members. This blog was written by th…

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: How Video Game Developers Have Been Leading the Industry

¡Hola a todos y a todas!

I hope all of you are celebrating a great Hispanic Heritage Month, including the programming we are performing from Fandom’s Community Team.

A few weeks ago we started this observance presenting our programming for this year, driving the theme of Makers Series and featuring artists from worlds like comics, science fiction and animation. We recently launched our first editor story, coming from Fearless Diva, with more to come in the next few days.

At the same time, some of our amazing entertainment wikis have been preparing their own appreciation posts, shedding light on the people who have been creating the IPs we love but typically don’t get the spotlight they deserve. You can learn more through the following links:

Getting the most out of Special:Community

I've always been a big fan of Special:Community, a page available under the EXPLORE tab of the top navigation in all non-Gamepedia wikis. While the main page of each wiki acts as a hub for the wiki readers, the community page was designed to be the hub for the editors. By default, the page offers several features useful specifically for editors, such as links to the most active admins' user pages, lists of editors, and cards with editing suggestions such as pages to proofread.

While a great starting point, the default qualities of this page don't account for the specific needs of individual wikis and the page is hard to find, resulting in rare utilization of the page. I'm going to go over what can be done about this, using Rebel Moon Wiki a…

Regarding the rollout of automatically generated Q&As

Some things I reacted to in Brandon's recent staff blog regarding automatic text generation.

  • 1 Preamble
  • 2 First reaction
  • 3 Second reaction
  • 4 Third reaction
  • 5 Fourth reaction
  • 6 Fifth reaction
  • 7 Sixth reaction
  • 8 Seventh reaction
  • 9 Eighth reaction
  • 10 References

First overall remark. The Q&A format here is rather similar to the old (as in pre-web) Internet staple: the FAQ. That is a proven and popular format that has fallen out of vogue, but Google has apparently found that the format is still very popular. I'm thus wholly in favour of integrating such a format into fandom.com, provided it is handled well.

Second overall remark: I think this discussion is not only about the Q&A function, or even the use of automatically generated text. It just happens to be its cur…
