Greta Thunberg, born 3 January 2003, is a Swedish schoolgirl, and the daughter of Swedish opera singer Malena Ernman and Swedish actor Svante Thunberg.

In August 2018, she started to strike from school every Friday in attempt to raise public awareness on environmental issues, especially global warming. While striking from school, she stands next the Swedish Parliament, holding a sign labelled Skolstrejk för klimatet ("School Strike for the Climate").

She has declared she will continue to do so until Sweden is in line with the Paris Agreement of December 2015. Her actions spawned an international youth movement called Fridays for Future.[1]

She was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in November 2014.[2]

In August 2019, she sailed from England in the United Kingdom to the USA to participate in the United Nations climate conference in New York City in September the same year.

She was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 2019.[3]
