Chrysler Building

The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco skyscraper on the East Side of Manhattan in New York City, At 1,046 feet (319 m), it is the tallest brick building in the world with a steel framework, and it was the world's tallest building for 11 months after its completion in 1930. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1978, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark in 1976.^[1]

In 50 years after people, the stainless steel crown of the Chrysler Building still shimmers. The low maintenance steel only had to be cleaned twice in a span of 76 years in the time of humans. On the 61st floor, constantly buffeted by high-level winds, the eight stainless steel eagle gargoyles continue to keep watch over the city. Steven S. Ross stated that the Chrysler Building is exposed to the wind due to the east of it are not protected by tall buildings. He continues that the gargoyles are only an add on, not fastened super tightly to the structure of the building, but was bolted into place. The connection to the building corroded and one gargoyle loosen from the building taking their first and only flight before bursting into pieces to the bottom of the building below.

In 200 years after people, the New York's silhouette is a throwback to the Great Depression with the collapse of the modern skyscrapers. The Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building once vied to be the tallest buildings in the world, both completed in the early 1930s, the Chrysler held the crown for less than a year before the Empire State surpassed it. 200 years after people have cause the Empire State Building to sink and collapse, making the Chrysler Building once again the tallest building in the city.

However, its fate is revealed that 200 years after people that the deteriorating columns can no longer support the floors, and as before, it's reign won't last for long. Gordon Masterton stated that the deteriorating columns are the critical point where the skyscraper becomes on verge of total collapse. He explains that the several columns buckling in a single floor, allowing one floor to descend rapidly to another level below, and its sufficient to trigger a cascading collapse. The Chrysler Building, first of man's skyscrapers to stand taller than 1,000 feet, collapses as the columns gives out the floors. In the process of the collapse, it then destroy some buildings below.

Before being featured in the series, the Chrysler Building can be seen (to the right) in the documentary in 150 years after people showing its spire have collapse, likely into the building below. It was possibly retcon in order to properly introduce in Heavy Metal.
