The City of Santa Clara is located about 6 miles (10 km) northeast of the Cupertino headquarters of Apple Inc. in California. Santa Clara is home to many technology companies, such as Intel and Nvidia.

With an estimated population of 129,488 as of 2018, Santa Clara is the 46th most populous city in the state of California and the 214th most populous city in the United States.[1] As of 2020, there is 1 Apple retail store in the City of Santa Clara at the Westfield Valley Fair mall.[2]
With an estimated population of 1,937,570 as of 2018, the County of Santa Clara is the 18th most populous county in the United States.[1] The county contains Cupertino, Palo Alto, and many other communities that are considered to be part of Silicon Valley. San Jose is the county seat. As of 2020, there are 7 Apple retail stores within Santa Clara County.[2]

Steve Jobs, Ronald Wayne, and Steve Wozniak filed the paperwork for the original Apple Computer Company in April 1976 with the County of Santa Clara, but did not specify a city in their first documents.[3]

The Santa Clara Convention Center was opened in 1986 and hosted the 1987 Apple Developers Conference as well as IBM's launch of their PS/2 in April 1987.[4]
In April 2020, Apple announced that it had begun sourcing N95 masks and designing face shields for donation to medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first shipment was delivered to Kaiser Permanente hospitals in the Santa Clara Valley.[5][6]
