• 17 July – Brazil wins the FIFA World Cup by defeating Italy, 3–2, following a penalty shootout in the final game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, USA.
• 18 September – The 1994 Swedish parliamentary election is held.
• 7 October – Carl Bildt resigns as Prime Minister of Sweden, following a defeat for the Moderate Party of Sweden in the 1994 parliamentary election, and is replaced with Ingvar Carlsson.
• 13 November – The majority of the people of Sweden votes in a referendum for European Union membership.
