It was never cool lol. It's not useful for things like doomscrolling but it is very helpful to keep up with local news and activities.
Tbf the Admin taskbar and just the tools in general are very outdated. Best to ignore it imo
Is it the current owner? Because if it is, you need to send a report to Fandom staff about the lack of power and protections over the wiki.
I would think you need to have permission from all your staff members before proceeding. However, before you do anything else, consider what closing the discussions forum would do to you overall wiki traffic. If the discussions are active and the editing side is too, more than likely you'll cut your wiki traffic by approximately 50%.
Don't do it just because it's not moderated. If that's the only reason, just find moderators or reach out to a/your community manager or a global discussions mod because it's always better to ask help from higher ups than it making mistakes that can negatively impact your wiki.
Before you contact Fandom staff about this, there’s one thing to take into consideration. Make sure to check to see how professional your editing community is because there’s a lot of times users would make small unnecessary edits just so they can receive achievements they don’t have. That can cause a few issues if you don’t have structured rules concerning wiki achievements
Plus they are actually pointless at this point. I never understood how achievements could be beneficial for a wiki.
In fandom's halls where stories thrive,
Editors worked to keep lore alive.
But users cried, “Let all have say—
Not just the few who guard the way!”
They clashed on pages, links erased,
Debates on canon, rules misplaced.
One sought truth, the other voice—
Both convinced theirs was the choice.
Yet through the scrolls and edit strife,
Fandom still beats, full of life.
And maybe one day, hand in hand,
They'll build a better wiki land.
I just want to clarify to all of you is that this decision wasn’t made by Fandom Staff, that includes Community Managers, SOAP, Wiki Specialists, or anyone with a “Fandom Staff” tag on their profile. Any hate or disrespect towards those individuals who help keep our communities in line is not appropriate and can lead to several consequences no matter where you’re at on the site.
Please be kind to everyone in light of this even if they have a differing opinion than the majority

I shared it with over 5000+ users by wiki announcements 😭
My advice for anyone who is an admin who can reach out to their non-English counterparts to discuss this issue and figure out how they can work around the issue if Fandom still implements it despite community outcry
I meant like a wiki for just general fictional media like Star Wars, One Piece, Baldi's Basics, all on one wiki.To be fair, it's a very difficult thing to accomplish due to conflicting wikis that may already be centered around a Fandom you want to add to yours.
For example, you have the League of Legends Wiki and the Arcane Wiki. While the LoL wiki has Arcane related content, the Arcane wiki's content is a lot more elaborated and doesn't have to worry about conflicting content between the LoL game and the Arcane series. However, the LoL always gets Arcane's users due to LoL being a much larger wiki and comes up more in search results.
Wiki's that are similar to what you're referring to, like the Characters, Villians, and Heroes Wikis, don't usually get the attention compared to their competitors. In fact most of those wikis get closed just a few days after creation.
Imo, I wouldn't create one. They usually are difficult to maintain and you can't promise you'll receive wiki traffic either.
I never really questioned the reason why because I always figured it was due to CC having a ton of users. Glad to know I was right lol.
For example, someone named OwO asked "how do we jump in this game" in a post and someone else named UwU answered "just click ctrl and w at the same time" and OwO believed it.To be fair this seemed more like a harmless prank. But as @No0n4m3s said, it does depend on intentions and wiki guidelines. Some wikis don’t allow nonsensical responses to posts.
I think it's a precautionary measure to avoid unwanted spam wikis from being created.
It’d be best to include an upvote spam guideline so that you can have a viable reason for the block
I know this thread is a little old but I wanted to add something
Usually if you save your edit and refresh the page, it will go back to normal. Although if you keep experiencing it, like Lostris said, make a ticket
That’s all I can really say and if some things are obviously wrong, do comment what you think. User input is important
This was a topic I had brought up to the group of Fandom Stars on Discord a while ago. I can’t necessarily quote the exact conversation but we discussed many variables that would need to be taken into consideration. I’ll go over some:
What if a user on a wiki dies and they were close to other?
There are multiple things admins can do to console a community without them to expecting them to get over it by themselves. Here’s a few things that can happen:
Allow a point to be made for users get the support they might need. The best thing to use in this case is a thread where users can help console each other in case they are deeply affected by one’s death.
Make an announcement informing the community of the passing of the user OR contact users individually who may not know or were close to the dead user to inform them of the passing. And in many cases, you will probably need to volunteer to be a consoler for those users as well.
What if a user is potentially dead but no one has the proof of their passing?
It’s good for admins and users alike to not jump to conclusions until there is viable evidence. Saying a person had died without proof they actually did can lead to numerous of problems. So to avoid that, if a user thinks someone had died, it would be best to contact a member of wiki staff and they have two available options:
Try to do research to find proof of the user’s passing.
Contact Fandom Staff to report that a user could’ve potentially died and they’d take it from there.
What if a user is threatening suicide or self harm?
Of course in most cases, they would be referred to Suicide resources that could potentially help them. But even then, posting a link to them asking them to click it is really not enough and can even hurt their self worth even more. Rather, it’s good to leave some words of encouragement and even try to help them if they’ve shown proof of suicidal thoughts or actions. It’s better if an admin of a community does this since they are meant to look over user needs of that specific wiki. But it’s also not limited to them. Wiki community members can also have a share. But if it seems they are being bombarded by a number of messages of people worried about them, it’s better if they wait to talk to them when cool down. Admins themselves have the unfortunate consequence that if they send a message, the suicidal user would think “They’re only doing this because it’s their job, not that they care.” And that’s why you should try to share personal words that help build them up.
The more people show they care, the better the outcome might be. But also, no matter how much people try, sometimes it don’t work.
What if a suicidal user actually commits suicide?
Things of this world are out of our hands. We can’t control what others feel or the things they do. So in many cases, users who’ve tried to help a suicidal user to keep from committing can often not have an effect.
When this happens, it’s up to wiki admins and Fandom Staff to intervene. This, they will try to lower tensions of the recent loss.
But what if users blame themselves saying “They could’ve done more”?
Staff and users who have managed to keep strong in the wake of devastating results should go individually to users who are having this thinking and try to help them to see that it isn’t their fault and that even that the user is gone, the important thing is that they tried,
Now this of course will not always fix the problem. A lot of it is out of user abilities. Pain will linger for as long as possible. But taking some of these steps can help levitate tensions and help users to keep on going. And who knows, it might save a life one day.
@ChrisToonsIsCool Why necropost? 😭
It really is up to the local admins. If they ask you to remove it, then it would be courtesy to do so.
