Note that the "wikitable" class also produces lines between columns without you needing to specifically code it into individual cells. So it may be easier to just put "wikitable" where "article-table" is to achieve the lines.

Set your preferences to the source editor (not the VisualEditor one but the other one). If that's not enough, switch the 2010 toolbar off. If that's too much, code a personal JS replacement for the 2006 toolbar (legacy source)... or the rich-text editor but I think that'd be harder.

I wrote it weird, but: if you use the non-VE source editor (the 2010 editor), it's the same as Wikipedia's 2010 source editor AFAICT (reasonable--it's part of MediaWiki). Further, if you then DE-select "enable the editing toolbar" on a UCP wiki you end up with a source edit screen with no toolbar (same as Wikipedia). Even the (relevant) classes appear to match. Because of all that I was optimistic the 2006 toolbar gadget from Wikipedia would port over without issue or modification, but it doesn't and I don't know why despite it apparently being the same.

(Contrast HotCat which used to 100% work without issue when ported unmodified but now only half works for reasons I both do and don't understand. XP)

I also know no JS (or, well, very little--not enough to write independently) but I brought it up because it's the same editor on the 2010 end and I was desperately hoping the gadget from Wikipedia would work when put in my user JS. XD (I even tried snooping through the code when it DIDN'T work but didn't understand enough to figure out what might be causing it to not work. XP)

(Alas, it's not as easy as porting in HotCat used to be...)

In theory you should be able to add the legacy source editor (the 2006 editor as it's known in Wikimedia parlance) if you go to the 2010 editor and switch off the 2010 toolbar entirely and add your own via JS... but it's not as easy as porting over the gadget that does the same thing from Wikipedia.

Yep, just got it re-working this morning on the wiki I posted about in this thread! :D

I know about that page. It didn't look like it had any information about it on there. I tend to about half the time come here (or, previously, to the forums) with an issue I haven't seen reported anywhere before going to staff with it, just to be thorough, because I'm human and can miss things if they're a place I don't know about (and am also afraid of nagging staff with every little problem I come across so I want to make sure sometimes).

Anyhow, I contacted staff and apparently the issue is a problem with large wikis' database dumps and not necessarily UCP specific? They're working on fixing it.

Fair, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a known issue or some sort of one-off problem... 🤔

Those are probably not INHERENTLY linked to UCP since it sounds like that's what you're complaining about (they're probably specific kinds of server issues, which could happen to any wiki), and I, for one, love being on a version of the wiki software that's not most of a decade out of date.

What "issues"? Knowing what issues you're talking about would help someone answer as to what's happening.

Honestly, the fact that UCP isn't on a version of MediaWiki that's been unsupported for 5 years is enough reason for me even if nothing had changed. Wikis are being migrated in batches and can be individually reverted if there's a bug with the migration but would be unlikely to be unmigrated wholesale Wikia-wide. I really find the updates to Recent Changes helpful, myself, and a number of other editing features feel more robust now (even if I'm editing with no editor enabled at all XD).

I can concur that it appears UCP wiki is the common denominator for whether a wiki is working or not, not whether or not it's one you've been to before or whether or not it's where you go to tell people something is wrong (which, BTW, is technically Zendesk if you're looking for a direct line to staff XP).

...I didn't even realize the polls died during the UCP migration, and on the wiki I admin I looked directly at the area of the main page where they used to be!
