Hitting "View Source" lets you see the source code of a protected page, or alternatively you can add ?action=raw to a page URL like so. This code is a table, which automatically resizes to fit its content.

If you want to copy the code exactly, the template does rely on Hoverimg template which requires some additional class setup from the looks of it so it appears properly, but you can simply add images with a link property to the main page of the wiki you want and it'd work. See Help:Wikitext for how to do that.

The default behavior for any element not given an explicit height is to take the height needed for its content. The special case is where it doesn't.
