That looks like the male sign emoji which you can copypaste from the web. According to EmojiTerra it only looks like that on Twitter, so it might be an image of the emoji but it's hard to say without a link to the page.
Looks like it is indeed an image which comes from the Gender symbol template. It shows a different symbol for the corresponding input (e.g male for male) and categorizes the page respectively. You could use the exact code if you wanted, but you'd have to upload the images used in the template separately.
I realized I kind of explained it poorly. Essentially, the infobox (Character template) has a gender parameter where the user inputs the gender. That result gets put into the Gender symbol template, where depending on the input, it displays a corresponding image. I hope that makes more sense.
