Many people who view a wiki are only there to see information, not contribute.

That's what I was thinking, but these are thousands of people, and I only get around 1 to 2 edits per day (excluding me). You would think with that many people surely there would be a lot more edits...

Ask yourself:

How many times do you look up something on Wikipedia?

How many times do you edit there?

Unless you're an active wikipedian, the percentage is probably close to zero.

• Analytics shows pageviews. Pageviews are not unique visitors.

• 99.9% or so of your visitors never edit.

• My home wiki has several thousands of pageviews per day, but I'm almost the only one editing for months currently, beside some anons fixing a typo every now and then.

• During the release of a new season and some time before and after, we have tens of thousands of views per day, but still you can count the editors on the fingers of one hand.

TL;DR: The huge majority of visitors don't edit a wiki, ever.

And when you see a wiki with hundreds of different people editing within a month, you know that you're probably visiting a wiki that receives not thousands, but millions of silent visitors during that same period.

Fandom as a whole receives around 2 billion visitors per month. A billion is a hard number to understand, but if we think it as 1.000 x 1 million, that's a lot. Most of this traffic is hugely concentrated on the very few gigantic wikis like Marvel and Disney. Small wikis like the ones you and me are admins on, will receive the insignificant crumbs of that traffic.

With that in mind, if your wiki can count on you to keep editing, that already means a lot.
