File:placeholder replacement

Evening.

I had a question regarding the creation of an image on an existing red link. Tons of pages I see on a wiki are a broken file link to File:Placeholder. I want to add a file to this link under that name so there won't be a broken link anymore, but it seems like the image doesn't get added to that name

Any ideas?

You cannot upload an actual file under this name because MediaWiki requires each uploaded file to include a proper extension matching the actual file type.

However, you can edit the page File:Placeholder and make it a redirect to another file, and it would be displayed whenever [[File:Placeholder]] is used.

For example, if you upload the image you want to File:Placeholder.png, you can add this to File:Placeholder

#REDIRECT [[File:Placeholder.png]]
