Hello! I am LiaMinina, and I'm here to introduce you to the Virtual Idol Wiki.
This wiki is about virtual idols, which are fictional characters who "promote" as singers, either as soloists or groups, doing activities such as releasing music, doing interviews and holding concerts.
Contrary to what other people think, there's actually a whole team behind doing the character design, modeling the character in 3D, and composing music for them. Or sometimes the idol themself composes the music...
Let me explain: there is someone using a motion capture suit, walking around and dancing while wearing it, who also has special headgear that tracks their face gestures with a kind of microphone attached to it, whose movements are transferred to the avatar. For safety and privacy reasons, this person's identity is not revealed. Disclosing that information is considered a form of doxxing.
I am interested in this topic and I am discouraged seeing people not understanding, automatically mistaking it for other concepts, saying things such as "You will never be Miku" or "Oh no! AI is taking over music!"... Virtual idols are actually very different from seiyuu projects, voice synthesis software and artificial intelligence. They are closer to VTubers... In fact, you may consider them "distant cousins".
I would like more people to know about and read through this wiki so that any doubts about this new phenomenon in music are dissipated, and people start having an open mind about it. Discussion is always welcome, as long as it is civil and peaceful.
In the future, I would like for this wiki to be the "go-to" resource for people who might want to know about a new V-dol ("vee-dol". It's an abbreviation of "virtual idol". I made it up), since it is expected that more of these will appear in the coming months.
I have founded this wiki around three years ago, making pages about some other V-dols that caught my eye, along with their discography, and recently I have added some of the more popular ones, such as PLAVE, from South Korea. It is currently under construction, but I am willing to open the wiki to new editors. I could use some help in making galleries, as I would like to add artwork, or official images of the idol in there.
