This is how computational devices work: they can handle an X amount of operations, but not X+Z. If you keep adding 1+ tab, 1+ gif, 1+ song, rinse and repeat... At a certain point, after adding a Z amount of operations, you'll say: "Well, my device used to handle it, but now it fails".
And not all devices are equal, but all have their own limits. Mine could load that page very poorly (2 out of 10 if I had to rate it), but didn't crash.
And this is also how web pages work. You weight between amount of content and performance, and you make decisions. For example, you can have:
Regular perfomance and considerable amount of media
Somewhat poor performance and a great amount of media
Very bad perfomance and an unlimited amount of media (always add +1 song and +1 gif)
You can't have max content AND good performance at the same time. Editors of the wiki chose max content over performance. There's even a hatnote saying the article could "take a long time to load", so they know what they're doing. Unfortunately, if you keep pushing in that direction, while some devices could take longer, others will start to crash.
