Personally, I don't get why AutoDMod was discontinued at one point.

Well, I would assume if Fandom operated a bot, they would be hekd much more responsible to what it says, and they don't want this. They see the social features (CC Discussions included) merely as a place users are allowed to talk to each other.

Nobody was talking about AI.

A bot is not AI. A bot is just an automated script that gets triggered on certain pattern, and then replies with some pre-defined text.

80% or so of my first replies here on CC is:

"Please include a link to your page."

and at least half the time it's something like

"Please be more specific / detailed."

These are actually the first two points from the discussion guidelines, but for some reason I will probably never understand many if not most people don't ever follow this, but instead make posts like "I need help", possibly with a title as meaningful as "Uhm..."

These are the cases that a bot could handle perfectly fine, right after the post was made, saving us from asking the same questions over and over and over again.

3. Read the full post, don’t judge by the cover.

We actually already have a bot here. It removes obvious bad posts using AI. It leaves a lot behind because it's set to be very careful, it only removes obvious spam and things like posts without any content. I do spot checks on its deletions, and all looks good so far.

They mean a bot that responded in situations such as this example.

The SOAP Wiki:AutoDMod page says it was deprecated in favor of Discussions AbuseFilter, which seems to focus more on:

"...automatically prevent(ing) certain bad actions: such as vandalism or spam that has certain patterns that can be detected, analyzed, and prevented from happening"

...which by the way seems to be what @Sannse is talking about here.

However, all the void detailed by @Oot42 above remains unhandled, because AbuseFilter cannot produce comments.
