Gamepedia has always supported mp4 videos (or at least for many years). On Fandom we use Youtube videos. Now that Gamepedia has migrated to Fandom, they continue to support mp4, while original Fandom wikis keep not accepting it.
Do you think that Gamepedia could end up losing their privilege? Or you think Fandom wikis could eventualy improve their video support to include mp4? Or would both branches keep these differences?
It's very covenient for users on a wiki not to be forced to have an account on a third site, in order to put a video on a wiki page.
Also, mp4 videos directly uploaded to Fandom keep on the wiki, and can only be deleted with the local admin permission. While Youtube videos keep being associated with a personal account, and can be taken down for no reason at any time.
A similar thing happens to polls on articles. But fortunately we don't need to create an account on Strawpoll to put their poll on the wiki. This is nice. Nobody will touch the source of the poll, and it will only be removed if the wiki users decide for that.
Also, me as an admin, I don't like the idea of owning any content I put on the wiki. But if I have to upload a video on my personal account, that video is mine, and every wiki user can see that. Even if I create a channel for the wiki on Youtube (damn, even more work!) it changes nothing in practical terms. The channel is still my channel, and I do with it whatever I want. I don't like that. And I don't like the fact that wiki users could see the wiki or any content on it as my (or anybody else's) personal property.
Side note:
I know that Fandom wikis accept other video formats, like webm, but their browser support is terrible. Webm for example doesn't load on any iOS device.
Example of webm on Fandom wiki (inside the collapsed box)
Also, there's a bug with the webm that prevents the video thumb from loading. It seems that the thumbnail URL (or what should be the thumbnail - a .jpg file) loads the video file if opened in a new tab.

And obviously a video cannot be the "src" of an "img" tag.
EDIT:
Just to clarify about the "personal property". I'm not talking about the copyrighted material in fair use, commonly belonging to game developers/publishers, but also to other experient tutorial video creators and WR speedrunners. I'm talking about admins that end up uploading a huge percentage of the wiki content, and how it could be misleading for common users if they see the wiki as a personal affair.
Also, for some reason, I could not tag this post with the Videos tag.
