You can just make friends but not add them

It doesn't really seem necessary. If you make a friend, you can always go back to the post and ask for their friend badge to put on your user page. Each person has a different username, so you can recognize them (if not easily) and adding friends just feels like more unnecessary notifications when I have things that I need to be paying attention to that drown under friend requests and the like.

A friend badge is an optional template you can make that other users can put on their page to show you two are friends.

That is the thing though, friend badges are not a standard feature. They are just something some wikis use. On Gamepedia, there is a built-in feature where you can list friends. I still don't think it is necessary though. The concept of having a friends list is strictly from social media which wikis generally are not. That is why I am a bit surprised that Gamepedia has it. Generally speaking, Fandom is more social-media-like than Gamepedia but for some reason it is Gamepedia that has a friends list feature.

"Follow" in what sense? You can already follow pages. What would be the point of following a person?
