I would prefer that FANDOM had an opt-in, automated system to setup a Discord account, if you don't have one based on limited info (that is described in a Help page preferably) provided by FANDOM to Discord. At least then we know some proper effort was made to setup the partnership beyond "hey guys we set up a Discord channel for FANDOM, but it really isn't that much different from any Discord channel on any FANDOM wiki, it's just we have staff running it."
It is different from any other Discord server - it's a verified/partnered server with Discord, Fandom Staff run it (and run no other server), and there is an automated verification system right when you join. Anyone globally blocked on Fandom or Gamepedia won't be able to join the server, and blocks on the server may result in global blocks on Fandom/Gamepedia.
We have some information available on the Discord page, as well as how to verify (Help:Profiles/Discord), with more documentation coming soon.
