Could you give more detail on the failure you saw? This feature is off by default, so many people won't be using it.
Yeah, it's not working for me either. You can report it as a bug via the new Zendesk bug report form.

The way search works on Fandom has evolved over the years. Originally, when the end user entered text into the search bar, they had the option of GO (which would take you directly to the article matching the query) or SEARCH (which would produce a list of results from the wiki's database with options for multiple namespaces, etc). This method is still observable on Wikipedia's monobook skin 
If you go to Special:Preferences, and navigate to the UNDER THE HOOD tab (as illustrated above), there's an option to default to the GO option described in the previous paragraph. Currently, and as a new development just today, this is not working.
My request to the community is an attempt to ascertain to what level this malfunction has spread.
