Edit two: this thread has been closed, and a new one has been opened!
Edit 5/21: here's a Help page. It's a bit complex but it covers all the bases. As opposed to "regular" help pages, please feel free to edit this one as you see fit - it's a work in progress.
Infobox templates are among the most-used on Wikia. They’re nearly ubiquitous, and for good reason: they're easy to understand and pack a lot of information into a small area. They “feel” quite natural on Wikia.
The problem? They translate very poorly to mobile experiences. We have a "workaround" in place right now for our mobile web experience, but some just break. Some others work only on certain devices. And the future is mobile - check out this graph on Wikia's traffic or go check it out for yourself on Quantcast. Mobile devices are the internet's growth path, and there's no reason to believe that will come to an end.
That's why we're releasing this new early beta markup for infoboxes. This is going to be a collaborative process; we need to get mobile right and we need to do it with your help. Feature requests, markup suggestions, tag changes, anything - let us know here. We may not implement them all, but we will read them all.
This is a first (and baby) step in a long transition towards mobile-friendly content. It'll be a long trip, but Wikia's actually stoked to start giving y'all the tools to get there, and we'll be around to help every step of the way.
I've uploaded several examples of the new markup to communitytest.wikia.com:
I want to stress again: these code changes are in early beta. They will continue to evolve with your input. That's why we're putting these out there early - we want to hear what you think should be included.
