What does this mean? I've tried to upload a picture I don't know how many times, only to get this message. I've cropped it and cropped it, but I'm unsure what it needs cropped TO. The original can be found here:

By default, MediaWiki has a maximum image dimension in pixels to allow before thumbnail generation breaks and the file can't be uploaded. I believe the current maximum dimensions are 3500×3500. The full sized image on that link is 7720 X 4409. I'd recommend resizing the image to 25%, which should still upload a fairly generously large image while getting under that thumbnail limit.

12.5 million pixels is the limit. The dimensions are completely irrelevant, and people should really stop using 3500x3500 as the stock example, because it's misleading.

You will have to reduce the size of the image. You can do this on an online tool such as http://resizeimage.net/ or do it using software like Photoshop or Word.
