I made a table, and in every cell that had "colspan" applied, the cell's contents were bolded. And as much as I like the idea, I don't always want it. How can I change the few cells that I don't want to be bold.

It would be useful if you provided a link to the page containing the table. colspan attributes themselves don't make the text within the related cells bold. However, if instead of using the pipe symbol (|) to open the cell you used an exclamation point (!), then the cell is seen as a header cell and the text inside is bolded by default.
Thanks, the pipe worked. I thought that the exclaimation mark was for styles, I didn't realise you could do this: | styles | content
The exclamation point is wikitext for the html <th>. You might want to swing by tardis:T:TABLES for a plain English explanation for what all the markup does. You'll probably also find wikipedia:help:Table#Pipe syntax in terms of the HTML produced useful as well — particularly if you plan to use CSS to improve your table formats. You've got to know what the HTML term is for the various bits of wikitext in order to start defining the CSS.
