If I'm working on a webpage, is it alright if I hotlink images from wikis here? Hotlinking instead of reuploading would make it easier to keep images up to date and have a link back to the original wiki.

As long as there is some form of attribution, I don't see why not. The main issue with images is their origin. sometimes they're released into the public domain, sometimes they're copyrighted and used on Wikia under fair use.
You'd need to check your website's copyright to make sure you could use images under fair use (it's part of American law so only really applies to servers in America) and then make sure the image is licensed as fair use. If there's no license, I'd steer clear of it unless you can find the source yourself.
The pictures are all owned by a company, so even at Wikia it's still technically copyright infringement, but the company has a policy that they generally don't care as long as their IP is used without any commercial activity by non commercial fan websites and projects.
