Shane was the leader of the mobile Bogan settlement.

History[]

Early Life[]

Prior to the Uprising War, Shane traveled to Clayton City and met a couple at a Chinese café. When the couple's daughter, Mei, is "stolen", Shane takes her in.[2]

Using the Drift, Shane fragments Mei's memories and implants false information with memory drives. Shane convinces Mei that he was as a family man that lost his wife and daughter and that he found her on the streets. With his tutelage, Shane raises Mei as a trained mercenary and killer in his Bogan faction.[3]

Pacific Rim: The Black[]

Meeting the Travis siblings[]

After a scavenger mission went south, Mei and the others arrived at Bogan were they were greeted by Shane who asked Mei how meany Kaiju eggs she got and what the status of the Kaiju was. Mei told Shane that she had recovered 2 eggs and that the Kaiju was dead. Shane asked Mei if it was because of the Travis group, and Mei told him it was unintentional and that they were not a threat. Shane welcomed the Travis group to Bogan and told Rickter to give the Travis group some food and some clothes for the Boy.

Shane asked Mei what she knew about the Travis group and she told him that they said they “walked here”. Shane ordered her to find out what they were hiding to which Mei complied by saying “always do”.

Shane tells Mei that his deal with Ferno’s team was now jacked since he promised 4 eggs but he only has 2. Mei tried to reassure Shane by telling him they will take what they give them and thank them. Shane tells Mei that no one gets shot this time and Mei told him that’s up to them

Black market Deal Goes South[]

While the Deal takes place Mei walks over to the Travis group and asks if they know what they are looking at and Taylor Travis responds Jaeger parts upon realizing what it is. Shane approaches the Dealer and notices Ferno didn’t show up this time and it’s just his “bootlicker”. After Shane looks a look at the Jaeger part, he states it's good enough but he doesn’t see the “big-ticket Items” After this Demarcus henchmen open the trunk revealing two Jaeger power cells to which Shane replies “good enough” surprised Demarcus counters by saying they are fully charged and don’t come cheep.

Demarcus goes into the house and finds there are only 2 Kaiju eggs instead of four. 2 of Demarcus men then both point their guns at Shane who asks Demarcus what Ferno even want’s with the eggs and states that it can’t be because he want’s to eat them and that he once had a guy crack one open suck out the yolk. His whole jaw dissolved away. Now he looks ridiculous. Demarcus said that Mr. Ferno trades them to the sisters and Shane say's “Those lunatics that live in the hills? Why am I not surprised?” Demarcus say’s he’s serious and that they don’t respond well when disappointed and that he needs 4. Shane informs Demarcus that the Kaiju he get’s them from is dead now those 2 eggs are worth more and asks Demarcus if he wants them or not.

Demarcus tell’s his men to grab the egg’s then trades the eggs once outside Demarcus give’s Shane one Jaeger power cell and tells him “half the eggs half the cells” Sane says he’s going to need both and once again Demarcus men all point their guns at Shane who asks what is with you guys and your guns and then his own men point their guns at Demarcus men. Hayley Travis tells Taylor they should leave to which he refuses at first and then eventually agrees, saying they will come back for the power cell later. They run into Rickter, who asks if they aren’t leaving are they? Because that would be rude after they opened their arms to them and all. Taylor says they were invited here and now they are ready to go to which Rickter points out they weren’t invited there, they were brought there after which the trade is interrupted by a scuffle between Rickter and the Travis siblings, resulting in a gunfight. In the end, Shane destroys the eggs but keeps the parts, and tells Demarcus he wants’s him to tell Ferno that is he retaliates he will feed him to the Kaiju and says that he’s letting the sisters sort it out forcing Demarcus to leave.

After this Shane is angered and grabs Mei by the throat and tell’s her that if Ferno survives he’ll be out for blood thanks to her and her little “friend’s”. he then lets her go and she informs Shane that Taylor seems interested in a power cell and that she dose not know why yet.

Mei and Taylor Drift/Atlas Destroyer V.S. Copperhead[]

Wyrick tries to partner with other members of Bogan who do not have Drift training, but they all fail, resulting in Joel receiving neural damage. Meanwhile, the Jaeger's energy pattern alerts Copperhead, which heads in their direction. Shane orders Taylor to copilot Atlas with Mei, despite his attempts to pilot with Hayley. As Mei is reluctant to share her memories in the Drift, Taylor successfully convinces her to do so, shocked at her experiences. Upon Drifting, Taylor's shock convinces him to stay and fight Copperhead. While they are initially successful, his lack of training and restraint causes a lack of sync. Their synchronization is incomplete, and when Taylor tries to fight the Kaiju, it removes and eats the right arm of the Jaeger. Taylor and Mei run Atlas into a minefield where Spyder detonates mines, which render the Kaiju unconscious.

Saving Brina[]

After Brina Travis is rescued from the Sisters of the Kaiju, Shane contacts Atlas Destroyer and offers the Travis siblings a deal: the Jaeger in exchange for Shane Drifing with their mother and freeing her mind. Shane attempts to get Mei to come back as well, but she tells him that if he wants really wants to be family, to do this without asking for anything in return. Spyder vouches for Shane's sincerity, telling Mei that this is no easy favor since Brina's mind is full of some real nastiness.

In the Jaeger's conn pod, Shane drifts with Brina with Loa attempting to warn him of the likely consequences of Drifting with a Kaiju-infected mind. Shane races through Brina's memories which are rapidly deleted around him before finally finding Brina in a memory of Haley's birth, earning her trust by using a secret that he had learned from Drifting with Taylor which only Taylor and Brina knew about. With the deletion closing in around them, Shane throws Brina through the exit, saving her, while his mind is deleted, killing him in the real world.

In the aftermath, a devastated Mei tells Spyder about Shane's death and Spyder realizes that Shane had always known that he wasn't going to survive. Spyder provides Mei with a data key that Shane had given to him before he left and reveals that it contains Mei's memories: Shane had never destroyed them, he had stored them. Knowing that he wouldn't be returning, Shane had ensured that Mei would get back what he'd taken from her.[4] Mei then buries Shane nearby with Spyder's help.[5]

The Divide[]

Shane was not physically seen, but Rickter mentioned him after he shot a Bogan soldier. He said that just because Shane's gone, doesn't mean no one's in charge.

When Hayley and Taylor picked up the scout tank, Shane was buried under the rocks with Brina Travis.

Personality and Traits[]

Shane was often known to be hardened, unforgiving and dry. He was also mostly cold, indifferent and callous towards most of the members of Bogan (Richter being the one who stands out among the rest) and wasn't particularly trusting of Taylor and Haley, questioning if they could be of use to his group. Despite his ruthless demeanor, Shane did have a bit of redeeming qualities as he stored Mei's memories rather than destroying them, and he likely planed on revealing to her the truth when he felt she was ready as well as looking after Spyder (who thought highly of Shane, despite his harshness toward the others). He was willing to help Hayley and Taylor free their Mom from the Sisters' control, despite knowing that the Drift could kill him (which it did). It's possible at one point, Shane could've been a good man and likely hated what the Kaiju did to the world, yet came to reluctantly accept the way things have become with Mei and Spyder being his only friends.

Known Inconsistencies[]
